BA(Hons), GradDipEd, MCouns,
I am a registered psychologist with over 17 years experience working with children, young people and adults. I'm passionate about providing unique psychology services for individuals and organisations. I have worked across a wide range of areas including: education, counselling, mental health, trauma and organisational psychology. I am based in Perth, Western Australia.
I have a particular interest in traumatic stress injuries, trauma, depression, anxiety, chronic stress, health implications due to the interaction between mind and body, attachment and interpersonal difficulties, self-regulation, ecopsychology and animal assisted therapy.
I work within evidence-based approaches and integrate innovative techniques to develop individual support programs. I strongly believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important element in creating a safe environment for clients. I understand and respect the courage it can take to ask for help, particularly when we feel overwhelmed or vulnerable. I hope to provide a compassionate, non-judgemental, respectful space in which to assist people to find solutions, ease pain and trust themselves.
Horses have been an important part of my family's history for generations. I had my own horses as a child and remember spending hours laying in paddocks with them. I would just watch them and feel content to be near them. It seems some things don't change much.
My first year working as a psychologist was daunting. Towards the end of that year I came across a book written by an internationally respected horse psychologist and trainer. He believed that the principles of trust and nonviolence that he used to train horses were also effective in changing the way people treat each other. It seemed horses had something to teach us about awareness, communication and relationships. In particular he wrote about his work with at-risk children and this struck a deep chord with me for two reasons. The first was that I had quickly realised a very different approach was needed for some of the young people and families that I worked with. The second reason was personal - I immediately recognised the power and possibilities of being with horses from my childhood.
The seed was sown and the dream imagined that maybe one day I might nurture the connection between horses and humans to heal and inspire.
